The tenacity, courage, and unparalleled abilities of scientist Rita Levi-Montalcini in a portrait by photographer Manuela Fabbri. In the background, a microscope on a horseshoe base - a symbol of luck drawn from a work by her brother Gino Levi-Montalcini - tells the extraordinary journey of the only Italian woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Medicine.
Obverse: In the foreground, portrait of Rita Levi-Montalcini inspired by a photograph by Manuela Fabbri; in the background, microscope taken from a medal designed by the brother of the Italian scientist Gino Levi-Montalcini, with the base in the shape of a horseshoe as a good luck charm for the award of the Nobel Prize for Medicine, that she received in 1986.
