Obverse: bearded head in three-quarter view facing left, a band holding his flowing hair: detail from the “statue A”, a Greek bronze sculpture from the 5th century B.C. found on 16th August 1972 in the sea in front of Riace Marina, on the Ionian coast of Calabria, and now on display at the National Archeological Museum of Reggio Calabria; below the head, name of the designer “CASSOL”; round, decorating, classically inspired frame and all around, inscription “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA” separated by a star.
