5 euro 500th Anniversary of the death of Raffaello Sanzio

Obverse:            detail from a self-portrait by Raffaello Sanzio painted around 1506 (The Uffizi Galleries, Florence). Around, the inscription "REPUBBLICA ITALIANA” (“ITALIAN REPUBLIC”); in exergue, the name of the designer, "CASSOL".

Reverse:             detail from "The School of Athens", the fresco painted by Raffaello Sanzio between 1509 and 1511 (Stanza della Segnatura, Vatican Museums, Vatican City). Above, the name "RAFFAELLO" on a semi-arch of small globes  that recalls the vault housing the fresco; the dates "1520" and "2020" in the centre and on the right respectively; below, the value "5 EURO"; on the left, "R" identifying the Mint of Rome.
